Delayed means the system needs more time, up to three business days, to complete the check. If no response comes back after three days, the dealer may legally proceed with the transfer at their discretion, though most dealers are cautious in this situation.
If you receive a delayed result, you may not be able to complete your purchase the same day. This can happen due to name similarities with someone in the system, incomplete records, or a variety of other data-matching issues. It does not necessarily mean you’re disqualified, it just means more verification is needed.
